Introduction:

  •  Tested an adidas p3 red 2.0mm rubber a few days now on those 2 above mentioned blades. ive been an acuda s2 user in my backhand for the past year and i wonder what is the fuss about this rubber. People say that this is Adidas’ version of the Tenergy 64 and I think is very close to it with a few differences. the 2.0mm version was still versy fast when i was drilling with both in the fh and bh. the rubber was very bouncy with lots of control. The sound was also loud when i hit through the sponge. The throw was medium a bit lower than t64 with more or less equal spin. It takes about 1-2 days to break in. For advanced players i would recommend the max version in order to fully utilize the speed. intermediate players can enjoy the 2.0mm which will give them ample speed while maintaining a high degree of control. Countering and smashing with this rubber is tops. It is not sensitive to incoming spin which is an essential to those shots. this is also one of the best blocking rubbers i have ever tried. control is very good on passive and active blocking plus punchblocks.

  • Have played for about 10 hours with Adidas P3 rubber – max thickness on both sides and here are my comments:
I found it really nice – used to play with Tenergy 05 in the past but was quite bothered by the high throw and a certain degree of unpredictability. With P3 there were so many loops that flew off my bat and seemed to go long only to curve in and land inside.
With Tenergy if i did not change the angle of the bat while switching from BH to FH, the ball would go long – P3 is so much more forgiving – a swing is all that is required – so much less to think of the angle while looping !
Speed almost the same as Tenergy. Blocking however is much better and so is the counter game from close and middle distance. Pushes are spinny and deep and rarely does the ball pop over.
Sound is great – kind of like a gunshot when one blocks a fast drive.
I for one did not find too much of a difference in the catapult effect of T05 and P3.
T05 on the other hand does have more spin in looping and the ball seems to bite deeper in the rubber than in P3.
On the whole I found P3 to be more controllable with the speed and spin being right up there which makes me wonder why it is not getting as much publicity as it should get. Where I come from P3 is less than half the price of a T05 and so great value for money.
Would like to hear more on the P3 from other who have tried it.

  • I have to revisit my original post and give more credit to this rubber. On a whim i decided to take my lightly used sheet of P3 and glue it up (with water based glue) since I was starting to get very unhappy with the Donic X2 Platinum soft I was using on my backhand. Hot damn!!! My technique has improved drastically in the past year and let me tell you, adidas is really on to something. Only problem is this rubber is extrememly difficult to find in North America but definately worth it.

  • I replaced the T05 with the P3 and knew that I could not use Tenergy 64 at all, so I wasn’t expecting much with the P3 which is Adidas’ equivalent. So I walk into a very busy club we visit weekly, and for the first time, there was an open table as soon as I walked in. A long pips backhand, fast forehand attacker – player/coach around 2200 asked me to play and we quickly took the table. I had beaten him a few times before, but he’d usually have the edge on me whenever we played. He used his inverted side to warm up with me on forehand and backhand.

On the forehand side, I noticed the P3 gripped the ball just as well as the P5 for normal rallies and the loops would be low and shoot very forward. I could see why many other reviewers had said it had a lower arc and more speed. While just feeling the rubber and sponge with the finger, it feels softer than the P5 or T05, but the feeling while hitting is a harder feel. A few other players who are used to Tenergy 64 much preferred the P3 and called it superior compared to the P5. Some of those testers were hitters, and some were very spinny loopers that felt P5 and T05 just was too high for them.

To my backhand, the normal rallies felt very similar to the T05 1.9 FX with the lower throw, but the blocking felt much more controllable, and you wouldn’t have to put as much energy in compared to the FX, 64 or other low throw backhand rubbers
